Rockin’ Christmas animation
Leed Construction and Engineering
Serious construction company Leed Construction and Engineering wanted a not so serious video to wish their clients a Merry Christmas. These videos are usually short, quirky and give the studio a chance to experiment with new techniques.
All the models were built from scratch including the two hero models – the Excavator and the Bulldozer. These were rigged with working pistons, caterpillar tracks and wheels saving a lot of time with the animation.
Creative Director, Ryan Stephens, was responsible for the animation. Ryan has experience producing 2D animation but this project was his first using Blender – an open source 3D animation package. “I was really impressed with Blender, it has so many features and is quite intuitive. I really feel we’ve just scratched the surface with what it’s capable of.”
The animation took the studio just over 100 hours to produce. This was over a period of six weeks with one week taken to develop the concept, three weeks for modelling, rigging and texturing and another 2 weeks for animation, rendering, editing and post production.
